Goaltimate, Shtick, Natties, etc etc etc

This is more intended as a roundup of sorts than anything in depth. Let's see where this goes...

Work-Insurance is crazy. Mostly crazy for geeks that choose to work in the field and not be in sales. On the morbid side, I now know what the medical term and symptoms for lung cancer developed from asbestos exposure.

Zero-Tryouts round up this weekend. If I had two words to describe the team this year, they would be "not old". With departures and retirements, we are going to be as young and athletic as ever. We may have to start utilizing a modified HnH offense depending on the handler staff. I have found myself taking on more of a leadership role (probably because I am one of the handful over 25), and have been trying to step up my game. I have always been the "conscience" of the D line handlers and probably will have to move more into a "initiator" role.

Wednesdays-By the middle and end of our season, numbers for Wednesday practices consistently dwindle and we work on our goaltimate and shtick as we can't field two full teams. With all the Madison guys trying out and lack of local numbers, we have already made the shift. Two weeks ago it was shtick in the rain and last week was goaltimate (although I couldn't attend). I've always loved the weird capture-the-flag type games. When I was in elementary school, there was an after-care program called "Super-Sports" that consisted of hours of games involving all those kinds of weird games, and I loved every second of it.

College Nationals-I've been able to congratulate the Hodag guys in person but wanted to make a quick note. Their performance at Nationals was ridiculously sick. Total domination. It was like Wisconsion was able to convince everyone "Just be happy that you're at Nationals, now please move aside". I am especially glad for the Hodag alumni whose vicarious lifestyles have another highlight (and I'm not even being sarcastic. I graduated from Olaf and am glad when their current team finished top 5 at Regionals dammit).
